Nestled in the heart of Sydney, The Grounds of Alexandria is renowned for its enchanting spaces making it the perfect venue for couples seeking a romantic and whimsical setting. For Cat and Dan, their wedding day was nothing short of magical, with the venue’s lush greenery at Atrium space and vibrant purple blooms creating a breathtaking backdrop for their special day. It was an absolute pleasure for us from The Happiness Ring to be their Wedding Planner and execute this amazing day for them.

From the moment guests arrived, they were greeted by the unmistakable charm of The Grounds—a venue celebrated for its rustic elegance and attention to detail. The outdoor garden was transformed into a purple wonderland, with cascading wisteria, lavender accents, and fresh lilacs adorning every corner. These floral arrangements perfectly complemented the venue’s natural beauty, setting the tone for an unforgettable celebration.

Lets hear from them:

When and how did you meet your significant other?

Dan and I met at the Ministry of Sound Club in London on July 11, 2014. Dan is British and was working in London and I was taking a gap year travelling Europe between graduating university and starting postgraduate school and was staying with my best friend, Kirstie.  Dan and I had a great night together wink wink and I texted my friends the next morning that I could marry this man because he made me laugh so much. Dan and I kept in touch whilst I was travelling and finally had our first "official" date a couple weeks later. Two months later a bunch of my stuff was stolen in Sweden, I asked to stay with him for a night or two, and I never left.

How did your now-husband propose?

I hate surprises and so planned what would happen myself. He can be shy and not so great with words and I assured him that I didn't want a speech, all he had to ask was "will you marry me?" and I don't readily accept compliments anyways. We had been together for years, I wanted to marry him for 90% of that time, and so when we decided to get married we went and designed the ring first at Fairfax & Roberts in Sydney since I had a specific style in mind that was not available commercially. A few months later, the ring arrived, and so we planned a day to travel to the Three Sisters for "just a hike." I knew what was going to happen and I was soooo excited, we had waited so long! We found a private area since the idea of a public proposal is a nightmare for me, he popped the question and I happily accepted.

Was there a theme for your wedding? What inspired you while styling your dream day? Both me and Dan's favourite colour is purple and I absolutely love flowers (I literally have a continuous tattoo of flowers on half my body) so that ended up being our theme. We floated a whole bunch of venues and themes before we found The Grounds of Alexandria, which turned out to be absolutely perfect for our small wedding party and our love of purple and mine of flowers. Our florist was magic, she completely made our garden theme come to life. She has an incredible imagination for flowers, we trusted her vision and she delivered better than we ever could have dreamed.

Cat and Dan’s love for nature and vibrant colours was evident in every detail of their wedding. The ceremony took place under a stunning floral arch, intricately designed with varying shades of purple and greenery.

One of the highlights of the evening was the couple’s wedding cake—Cat made them. Their Favourite and classic: Cheesecake.
